Media What? How to Create a Media Kit

Tanya Stesen asked:

So you’ve been in business now for a few months (maybe even years) and your small business is blossoming. Then one day a potential client or advertiser asks for one of your Media Kits. Media Kit? Uhhh… sure, I’ll get that to you a.s.a.p. Only to end up frantically searching the net at 2am for any idea of what the heck is supposed to be in your “Media Kit”.

A Media Kit, also called a press packet, is simply a collection of information that typically includes a letter to the recipient, brochures, testimonials, reviews and a business card. A media kit is a sampling of key information about you and your company, what you do and why they should care.

A media kit is purely information and should always be prepared ahead of time! You never know when you will meet a prospective client or advertiser and having a professional media kit to put in their hands on the spot will insure they remember your business.

Your media kit doesn’t have to be expensive, fancy or elaborate but it does need to portray a clean, crisp and professional image. First impressions count, especially in business. A basic media kit should include, at the very least, a well written proofread cover letter, a brochure, a press release, business cards and information about your companies history and your mission.

Your media kit should be housed in a high quality, professional presentation folder which can be found at your local office supply chain. Folders with diecuts for a business card are ideal for media kits. A simple label with your company information or logo can be applied to the front to further personalize your media kit.

If you have a newsletter or if you have written articles relevant to your business you may want to include those as well. Other optional inclusions could include a listing of your products, calendar of upcoming events, professional black and white photographs or an invitation to your next event.

Last but not least – Follow Up. Follow up calls can be made 3-4 days after the media kit has been mailed out. If possible make sure all media and advertising contacts receive an updated media kit each quarter with new articles, press releases and information of course.

There is Value in Mobile Home Remodeling Projects

Tom Turner asked:

You can find real value in fixing up your mobile home with a few remodeling tips and tricks. Although there may not be as much value in a mobile home it is still a worth while project to do some nice remodeling projects to make the living space more attractive and livable. This article will look at some possible mobile home remodeling projects you can do in a day.

Mobile Home Remodeling - Fix Up the Bathroom

The bathroom is often a smaller room in most mobile homes. You may want to consider adding some mirrors or other décor that will give the room the illusion of more space. Sometime the addition of a larger mirror can really add to a bathroom room.

Mobile Home Remodeling - Consider Some New Storage Areas

If you have a corner that is not being used you might add a nice storage unit to your mobile home remodeling plans. A corner storage unit will look very nice, but not take up as much room as many other types of cabinets.

New Floors May Be In Order

Mobile homes don’t always come with the best of flooring. You may want to spice up a kitchen with some new flooring material. There are some very nice laminate flooring products on the market today that might go rather nicely in your mobile home remodeling plans. You may be able to check with some local building supply stores to see if they have any suggestions for flooring in a mobile home setting.

Mobile home remodeling is not a tough job if you make some solid plans and check around for materials. One advantage that most mobile homes have is that most rooms are smaller and may not require as much martial to complete the job.

New Touch Screen Mobile Phones For 2008

John Gray asked:

Sony Ericsson has announced two new handsets, the G700 and G900 to be released in 2008. The G700 and G900 names sound like part of the Samsung mobile phone collection, with Samsung having previously released the G600 and G800.

The two 3G handsets look like pretty standard handsets. They both feature a camera (G700 - 3.2 mega pixel, G900 - 5 mega pixel), FM radio, multimedia player, stereo Bluetooth, memory stick micro, 4 hours talk time and 13 days standby in 3G mode, and the G900 boasts WiFi. Both phones weigh in at 99 grams and measure 106 x 49 x 13mm.

The most interesting aspect of the two phones is that they are both touch screen, Symbian smart phones. The touch screen measures 2.4″ and allows the user to scribble notes, surf the web, and select menu items. The handset also comes with handwriting recognition which is handy when writing an sms. Users also have the freedom to add their own applications to their mobile phones.

My personal opinion is why have a touch screen? It creates a slight wow factor about the new phones but it doesn’t really save you any time when using the phone, or make the phone functions work any more efficiently than a standard mobile phone. And of course you need to make sure you don’t lose your stylus! Many people will love the touch screen but I feel it’s a bit of a waste of time.

Whatever your thoughts are about the touch screens the G700 and G900 are two stylish mobile phones. The G700 will be available in silk bronze color scheme and the G900 will be available in dark red and dark brown color schemes.

CECT P168C Mobile Phone - Here’s the Features on This Quad Band iClone With Dual Sim Active

Rae Edwards asked:

The features of the Chinese iPhone clones can sometimes get confusing. The manufacturers upgrade and roll out new phones at such break neck speed that it’s easy to mistake one model for another. Many people mistake the new CECT P168C (aka the P168++) with it’s inspiration, the P168+ (aka iClone quad band). Or, people confuse the C model with the S model (more about that later). This article will discuss the standard and stand out features of the CECT P168C, so that you can see how it is different from some of the other Chinese quad bands on the market.

The P168C Supports 850, 1800, 1900, and 900 MHZ (Quad Band) But Which You Use Depends Upon Which Country You Live In: Technically the C model support all of the MHZ bands, but usually not all at once. I’ll explain. Typically, when you buy this phone, the seller will set it depending upon the country you are in. So, for example if you live in Canada, North America, or the USA, the seller will go into engineering mode and set the phone to support 850 / 1800 / 1900 MHz. But, if you live overseas, you’ll instead be given a 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHZ.

You can set this yourself, but most times the sellers will do it for you. (I’d recommend letting them unless you absolutely know what you are doing.)

Two Sim Cards Running At Once: Probably the biggest standout of the 168C is the “dual sim active” feature which means that you can really have two sim cards, phone numbers, and plans / carriers running at one time without needing to turn off or shut down the phone and while talking on it. For example, let’s say you are a customer of both AT&T and T Mobile. You would be able to use the phone on AT&T (talking, web browsing, emailing, texting, etc.) and you could then receive a call from your T Mobile sim at the same time. This greatly appeals to many different consumers who use their phones very often or receive a lot of calls, including executives, business owners, students, and even parents.

Standard And Bonus Features (Including Flow Or Multi Touch): Other than the customizable quad band and the dual sim active features, the P168C does have all of the standard and extra / bonus features or the “everything in one phone model” that we’ve come to expect from the clones. In addition to Bluetooth (A2DP), full MP3 / MP4, and the 2.0 mega pixel digital camera and web cam, this one allows web browsing, emailing, and texting (WAP, GPRS, SMS, and MMS). It also has handwriting entry, a voice recorder, and a stylus.

The manufacturer has slightly changed / improved interface. As a result, this phone is often referred to as having “less bugs.” It also includes the flow touch screen (often also called “multi touch.”) It’s expandable 2GB of memory can serve as a mini hard drive as it connects to your computer via USB for easy document and data transfer. It has a standby time of about 150 hours.

I’m surprised that, In spite of the upgrades, this phone doesn’t cost much more than the original iClone quad band (the P168 plus). I almost never see it over $150. More often than not, it’s in the low $100 range, depending upon how much memory is included.

This phone generally does not have the “shake and tilt feature,” (advancing music and media by only shaking the phone). If you’re looking for that feature on this phone, take a look at the CECT P168S, which includes it.

HiTune T68 - This Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Is Worth The Wait

Rae Edwards asked:

The Chinese cell phone / PDAs have been embraced by consumers because of their ability to copy and improve upon popular technology for a low price. It started with the iPhone clones but it has evolved to include clones for most best selling PDAs, pocket PCs, and cell phones.

The HiTune T68 is a great example of this, taking many of its features from the Rim Blackberry and HTC models. This little PDA is loaded with features that make it attractive to executives, students, gamers and texters. But, it is the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system that ensures its popularity and productivity.

Productivity: The T68 runs all mobile Windows programs, including Word, MSN, Excel and PowerPoint. It also includes Outlook Express and syncs to your network or computer via ActiveSync. This makes it easy to receive, compose and edit documents away from the office or classroom.

Fun Features: This model is a true smartphone with a built in 2.0 mega pixel digital camera and web cam, WiFi, Bluetooth, MP3, Java 2.0, and the ability to download and play Nintendo and Windows PPC games.

Appearance: This clone has a 2.6 inch touch screen and a full keyboard. It is silver and black in color and sleek in design. It looks very similar to a Blackberry or other popular pocket PCs.

This phone is a tri band which means it will work worldwide with most GSM carriers. It is unlocked and reads your sim card without drivers or software. In addition to many standard smartphone features, it has GPS navigation and an e-book reader.

Price wise, this PDA is currently starting at about $175 depending on where you get it. There’s no denying that this clone is loaded with specifications that will likely appeal to a wide range of consumers.

T-Mobile G1 Cellphone Review

Christian Emil Johansen asked:

HTC in cooperation with Google has created a new cell phone with an Android operating system. The mobile phone is called “T-Mobile G1″ and is characterized by a special design, with a large screen that can be pushed to the side to reveal a full 5 row qwerty keyboard.

The mobile phone is said to become a major competitor to Apple’s IPhone. The mobile phone is build around an open source operating system, just like the IPhone, so both developers and the phone manufacturers can bring the users content and applications support. In practice this means that everyone can build applications for this mobile phone for anyone to buy or just download for free over the Internet. Using the built-in keyboard, it has become easy to navigate around on the phone, on the net and doing tasks like writing e-mails or other documents.

The G1 comes with:

528MHz processor WLAN function 3.2 inch touchscreen Full 5 row QWERTY keyboard 3.2 megapixel color camera with auto focus Full HTML browser Google Talk which is an chat program GPS navigation capability with Google Maps Street View which means that you can watch maps in real pictures from where you are and in street view Gmail YouTube

And many other Google features.

The mobile phone weights 158 grams, which also include the battery. The G1 also has a built-in microphone and speaker and supports many audio and video formats like Mp3, AAC, ACC+ and Mp4

The G1 has a search box on the desktop which is meant to search both the phone and the Internet. To reach the search box you just have to slide to the right with your fingertip and the desktop slides to a screen with a search box only. The search box also has some cool features. For instance it tries to guess what you want to search for by listing the most common searches on the Internet, while you are typing.

One of the features that makes the G1 stand out from the iPhone is the background picture.

On an iPhone, you can not put background pictures on your desktop, while on a G1 phone you just gets a panoramic picture when “sliding” around on the desktop.

The G1 looks pretty much the same as the previous T-Mobile Sidekick series.

I don’t like the design very much. I did expect a little more with Google and HTC working together, but I do also think that the software works really good and has some very nice functions. The G1 is very simple to use and you can take some shortcuts and directly add them to your desktop.

The absolute greatest advantage is the ability to accept open source programs, and I predicts this concept will be the future.

MEDIA & BDSM

Filed under: Relationships — admin @ 4:38 am
Hans Meijer asked:

Media coverage is extremely important when it comes to the image the world has about any group in society. It may even be decisive. And as for any other group, this is true for the ****** power exchange world as well. Since ****** power exchange is attracting more interest in society, it is only logical the phenomena gets increased media coverage. In addition, the current trend - especially in audiovisual media - to try and cover more eroticism in general contributes extra to this trend.

Journalists trying to cover the subject are faced with various difficulties and complications - the most important being the complexity of the subject as well as the difficulty to find people who feel comfortable with talking about their most intimate emotions in mass media. Next to that, to an outsider it is not easy to understand the cultural differences within the group and the subject takes up quite a bit of research and/or pre-production time as well as space or air time to cover it in a more serious way.

“The scene” does not exist

Despite what general opinion would like people to believe, there is no such thing as “an EPE (or BDSM) scene”. Instead there are different cultures, different sexual preferences and most of all individuals and couples practicing or just fantasizing about power dynamics in an ****** setting. One of the main difficulties is that - as a result of the very individual determination of sexual behavior in general and with that ****** power exchange - it is extremely hard, if not entirely impossible to find common denominators. Hence talking to one or two people will only sketch THEIR views. These may be significantly different from others and are most certainly not THE views or opinions.

First of all, there are very distinct differences in culture, based on sexual preference. ********** EPE is very different in many aspects from its heterosexual equivalent. ********** men are - in their EPE-emotions - very different from ********** women and within the heterosexual world the first main difference should be made between the Maledom/femsub (dominant man/submissive woman) and the Femdom(me)/malesub (dominant woman/submissive man) cultures. When concentrating on the heterosexual “world” only, one of the major differences is the fact that the Femdom(me) culture is dominated by women, who have made a profession out of their nature; a phenomena that is almost non-existent in the Maledom/femsub culture (although there are professional ********** women and -albeit extremely few - professional dominant men).

Most of the literature available is about ********** ****** power exchange, where power dynamics are different, the culture is much outward oriented and - although this a dangerous generalization - generally speaking, more rough. In addition, there are many technical differences between ********** and heterosexual EPE. Another very important consideration is that sexuality between members of the same *** is entirely different from sexuality between members of the opposite ***. Beyond these major variances, there are many other heterosexual-specific concerns, such as the fact that a heterosexual couple will usually be confronted with having to raise children. It is, therefore, impossible to rely on available literature when it comes to form an undistorted opinion on heterosexual ****** power exchange.

The image of ****** power exchange is, to a large extent, generated by both pornography on one end and one-sided, dysfunction-oriented clinical and scientific research. Hence the picture the media paint - for understandable reasons - is a picture very few ****** power exchange people would recognize. One of the main reasons for this sullied view of EPE is the fact that it is difficult for media to get people to talk about their emotions. The majority of people interviewed - since they are usually the only ones available - are people who are commercially active in the ****** power exchange world - predominantly dominatrixes. These people usually and again understandable, have a one-sided image. Professional EPE-activity is a commercial enterprise with the aim to make profit, not to express the person’s own feelings towards a partner. Since the vast majority of EPE-professionals are dominatrixes, they will attract a very specific type of person, in particular ********** men. Very few of the clients a professional dominatrix has, have an active ****** power exchange relationship with their partner. And, the professionals interviewed have an entirely different agenda. Their motive is not to give unprejudiced information about their subject. Their first objective is to attract (more) clients and the immediate second motive is to make sure they stand out from their colleagues.

A picture based on alternate motives

Unfortunately, the EPE image is predominantly influenced by several elements all of which have ulterior motives. Non of them have had or currently have the objective to communicate unprejudiced information. Let’s make an interesting list of the four most influential factors on the image of ****** power exchange:

Science

The majority of scientific publications on the subject originate from the psychological/psychiatric field. None of these publications deals with the power exchange between healthy, well-adjusted people, capable to make safe, sane, consensual, well-informed and conscious decisions. Instead, all these publications deal with people seeking help (usually from the author) and have been written primarily to advocate either one specific opinion or one specific treatment by one specific therapist. Unfortunately, there is no broad, large scale research available on the phenomena of EPE. It is estimated that as much as 30 percent of the adult population has ****** power exchange fantasies and is (potentially) active in this area. The largest group that has ever been the subject of research is a group from approximately two hundred people from one country. This can hardly be called representative for the world-wide group, hence all conclusions should not be projected on the entire population. Unfortunately, this happens all too frequently.

Furthermore, much of the available scientific research available and quoted, is extremely outdated. This is especially true for politicians, legislators and lawyers in many countries, who will go back and cite research that is at least thirty or forty years old. Whereas no court or scientific body in the world would accept other (semi)medical data that old as a basis for judgment, when it comes to ****** power exchange this is still generally accepted.

Pornography and pseudo-experts

These two groups are mentioned in one header deliberately because pseudo-experts predominantly style themselves on the pictures painted by pornography, sometimes cleverly validating themselves and their views by misquoting scientists. Both pornography and pseudo-experts have only one objective: to sell as many books, articles, magazines or videos and CD’s as they possibly can. ****** power exchange-related pornography is mainly sold to people who are NOT active in ****** power exchange. Much of what is sold is - unfortunately - quite often mistaken for information, especially by people who are new to the subject. The picture painted is not meant to give information, but instead, is meant to indulge fantasy. In these situations fantasy does not have to become reality, and when it comes to ****** power exchange, hardly ever does fully.

Media

Without making any judgments here, the media plays an important role in the image-building. Next to the difficulties sketched above - the fact that it is indeed extremely difficult to depict a clear image of EPE and the unintentional effect of dominatrixes - it is obvious that excess-oriented journalism does not help and, again, does not have the objective of communicating factual and independent information, but has the objective of selling copy as well as entertaining.

The “community” itself

Even though the various support groups put a lot of effort in trying to inform and educate, their efforts reflect the average lack of experience in mass communication as well as the variety of opinions that even the EPE community itself holds. None of the support groups, not even larger national groups like the USA National Leather Association, have any critical sway in the EPE community, compared to the number of people interested in the subject. This is again the result of both the variety of opinions held as well as the different cultures. Individual subgroups are only just finding out they have a different identity from other like-minded people. This is new and somewhat disturbing to many and it is difficult for groups as well as individuals to find and identify with a “new” identity.

These support groups are small. They do not have one-tenth of the budget, that scientists and especially pornography producers can use. There for it is a very uneven battle, trying to fight the misinformation with little more than a personal computer and a xerox-machine, when resources in the pornography industry are huge.

Finally, there are the well meant efforts of individuals, especially on the Internet, to try and build personal home pages that provide “information”. Such information is usually highly individual (and as such useful for identification purposes) and of little or no relevance for a more general informational approach. The bottom line is that the information/misinformation ratio is about 10:90. It is no wonder the image the outside world has is the wrong image; an image that has very little to do with the day-to-day practice of ****** power exchange.

Samsung J700 - A Good Choice of Mobile Phone

Matt Damon asked:

The Samsung J700 is a good choice if you are thinking to change your existing phone with a low mid range and budget phone. You will really like this creation of Samsung which is ladened with some good features to make your life more luxurious and easy going. The phone has some features which can give tough competition to models of other brands like Sony and Nokia within the same price bracket. This is a phone boasts of some good multimedia features and short cut keys.

Samsung J700 is a slider phone with some cute features in this phone. The phone has dimensions of 99.5 x 48 x 14.8 mm and weighs only 92 g. The light weight phone would be a hit among college students because they don’t feel like spending too much on expensive phones. And this may be a low mid range phone yet it has those multimedia features which the young generation are always in search of. The multimedia and the communicating features of this phone are by no means a low one.

The Samsung J700 supports GPRS, EDGE class 10. The 2 inches TFT touchscreen gives you the freedom to watch videos comfortably and paste colorful wallpapers. You will fall in love with this black and elegant gadget the moment you pick it in your hands. The 1.3 MP camera can really click good quality images. Though the phone doesn’t have flash but when you take pictures under comfortable light the images are quite clear and distinct.

The media player of the phone is something which the college chaps will love very much. It can play WMA files and MP3/AAC/AAC+/MIDI files too. The sound quality of the phone is superb whether you listen in hands free mode or via ear piece you enjoy a good sound in this phone.

Samsung J700 is a new launch and perhaps Samsung has tried to capture a particular audience like college students and those who are looking for budget phones. The phone can be little cheap but that by no means assert that it is out dated and has nothing special in it. You have JAVA MIDP version 2.0 for high resolution games in it, FM radio for those who love to tune to listen the recent releases or the retro clips. The phone is also equipped with a MPEG4/3GP video player and recorder. There is Bluetooth Printing and Organizer. There is currency converter and voice memo too.

Social Media For Hiring?

Filed under: Internet And Businesses Online — Tags: , — admin @ 7:08 pm
Corinne Burkhert asked:

So here we are…Social Media has been exploding, now the inevitable comes….

Using Social Media to locate, reference check and even perhaps interview an applicant?

Indeed. It has been growing in popularity! The trend is developing to use the popular social media channels, which are helpful to screen potential employees and more. Currently a large number of foundations are using social media with their grant award process. There are organizations and programs available to help you understand how to look for passive job seekers online, how to check for references, and how to set-up corporate HR Brand that would attract the best talent.

Other organizations take it even further with sourcing applicants, then driving them to a Social site like Ning. There they can have a Skype based video introduction along with joining groups and blogging so companies can identify how they really are. This way they’ve built relationships, engaged them and identified talents way ahead of the interview process. It is a great way for both the company and applicant to get to know each other.

Are we surprised of this use?
No…we’ve seen the same trend happen with myspace and chat rooms…it’s inevitable…if you spend time online, you are creating an imprint of what you do and who you are.

Examples of what turns employers away:
- posting provocative or inappropriate photos or information.
- posting about them drinking or using drugs
- bad-mouthing previous employer, co-workers or clients
- discriminatory comments
- lying about qualifications
- sharing confidential informations from previous employer

Examples of what Employers are looking for are:
- Profile provides a good reflection of the applicant
- Profile supports applicants professional qualifications
- Applicant is creative
- Applicant is well-rounded
- Applicant has good references posted about themselves
- Applicant has received awards and accolades.

Things to do before you start job searching..

1)DO clean up digital junk BEFORE you job search. Remove photos, content and links that can work against you in a potential employer’s eyes.

2)DO create your own professional group on sites like Facebook, LinkedIn or Ning to establish relationships with leaders, recruiters and potential referrals.

3)DO keep complaints offline. Keep your content focused on the positive, whether it relates to professional or personal information. Makes sure to highlight specific accomplishments inside and outside of work.

4)Remember others can see your friends, so be selective about who you accept as friends. Observe all comments made by others. If you need to consider using the “block comments” feature or even setting your profile to “private” so only designated and allowed friends can view it.

5) DO NOT mention your job search if you’re still employed.

Top arena’s using social media to search for possible employees are:
- Communications
- Technology
- Professional & Business Services
- Media.
Social Media is the future, no question there… it’s becoming an increasingly persuasive way to research your potential employees.
